Our Curriculum

We have made every possible effort to design the programs, classes, and activities at the Lighthouse to enrich and train the visually impaired people in our service area. All of our services are available free of charge, regardless of age, race, creed, color or gender. The only qualification is that a member receiving service be legally blind. We have divided our program into two terms: A Fall Program beginning in the middle of September and a summer term that begins the middle of June. We extend an open invitation to the community to visit the Lighthouse at any time.

We offer the following classes:

  • Independent Living
  • Home Economics
  • Mobility and Orientation
  • Computer Training
  • Exercise and Nutrition
  • Beginning and Intermediate Braille
  • Basket Weaving
  • Macrame
  • Ceramics

"It is through the hands of others that I, deaf and blind, know the richness and fullness of life. It is through the strength of others that I am able to do work that is worthwhile."
