Our Curriculum

We have made every possible effort to design the programs, classes, and activities at the Lighthouse to enrich and train the visually impaired people in our service area. All of our services are available free of charge, regardless of age, race, creed, color or gender. The only qualification is that a member receiving service be legally blind. We have divided our program into two terms: A Fall Program beginning in the middle of September and a summer term that begins the middle of June. We extend an open invitation to the community to visit the Lighthouse at any time.

We offer the following classes:

  • Independent Living
  • Home Economics
  • Mobility and Orientation
  • Computer Training
  • Exercise and Nutrition
  • Beginning and Intermediate Braille
  • Basket Weaving
  • Macrame
  • Ceramics

"It is through the hands of others that I, deaf and blind, know the richness and fullness of life. It is through the strength of others that I am able to do work that is worthwhile."

Message from the Executive Director, Sandy Wood:
Our Lighthouse for the Blind School may be temporarily closed, but the lights are still on! Our free services continue to be available in a variety of new ways. We are offering several zoom classes and our Learning to Live with Your Visual Impairment Support Group virtually. If you don't have internet or a computer, all you need is a phone to join in. A schedule is listed below. Each month we are making a no contact food delivery to over 60 addresses.  Our student store is available for purchases by making an appointment. Please know we are operating on a reduced work schedule.  Call the Lighthouse at (909) 884-3121 if you have any questions or just need to talk.  On behalf of the board of directors, volunteers and staff, please be assured the joyous day will come when we can welcome everyone back "home". Stay safe and positive!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       ZOOM Class Schedule (January 2021 through May 2021)                                                                                                                                                                                        TUESDAY:       10AM INDEPENDENT LIVING/COOKING
